A small culturally mixed community living an apartment building in the center of Rome is thrown into disarray when one of the neighbors is murdered.

Synopsis

Piazza Vittorio has become a multicultural microcosm in the centre of Rome, where locals mix up with immigrants and political refugees. In a old condominium the tenants are a reflection of the outside world: a multi ethnic crowd, marked by contrasting cultural, linguistic and religious differences which in this closed world pave the way to misunderstandings, prejudices but also to solidarity and even love relations. In this old palace, the lift is the central meeting place and becomes the belligerent cause of personal dissatisfaction, abuses, misunderstandings and mistrusts. All and each one is alternatively victim of someone else, of bureaucracy, of personal fears.
When young Lorenzo, the local bully, is found burned dead inside the lift, during the ensuing investigation each of the tenants offer their querulous testimony. It is then, that a colourful community of riotously funny, achingly sad and strikingly incisive people blends into a sentiment of belonging. In a wave of solidarity each one will accuse himself of what they believe to be a murder, but only the elevator, the silent witness knows the truth.
Based on the novel with the same name written by Amara Lakhous
