L’uomo in più is not just the revolutionary game plan which excited and poisoned the last few months in the life of ex-footballer Antonio Pisapia. It expresses the existential state of both the film’s protagonists, who fall from the apotheosis of success in 1980 to the depths of utmost solitude in 1984. Both of them suddenly become redundant, excluded from the world in which they had recently been stars. |

Antonio Pisapia, known as Tony, is a pop singer. He has a namesake, a few years younger than him, who is a professional footballer. They have completely different characters: the first is a cynical and egocentric braggart, while the other is shy, humble and morose. For both men, the 1980s promise wealth, success and thrills, but their luck doesn’t last long. Tony seduces a young girl and is accused of rape. After helping his team qualify for the uefa Cup, Antonio tears his ligaments and has to give up his career. He becomes a trainer, but there no longer seems to be a place for him in the world of football. One day the destiny of the two men meets: the surrender of one means the redemption of the other
