PRINCE OF SOAP

Ilona is a penniless amateur actor who, because of a misunderstanding, is hired onto the writing team of a soap opera.

At a cast and crew party, Ilona meets and falls for the show’s star, Kalle, who plays the role of a fire fighter named Antero. Ilona begins writing scenes for Antero based on the situation and uses the script to seduce him.

But the show’s producer Raakel, who is jealous of Antero, gets involved and does her all to destroy Ilona’s plans. Using the show’s script, the women engage in a manic fight for Kalle’s/Antero’s heart. As a result, Kalle appears to have completely lost his grip on reality, and no longer sees the difference between himself and his character – or is it all just a bluff?

The love triangle produces the best and most colourful episodes in the history of the show, which draw a record audience on television. Raakel’s and Ilona’s fight for Kalle-Antero climaxes in the season’s final episode, which is aired live. Both Raakel and Ilona have written themselves roles in the climactic episode. There is romance, drama and tragedy in store – but (in the heat of the battle between the women) it is unclear to the very end who will end up with whom and who will shoot whom?

Prince of Soap is a romantic comedy that parodies soap operas, and in which fact and fiction are confused in the fight between screenwriter and producer for the heart of the lead actor. The increasingly surprising plot twists result in general chaos and broken hearts – in front of and behind the cameras.
