Nico,
a boy of thirteen, leaves his home town in the south and heads for Rome,
determined to find his parents who have been swept away by the Germans.
The child’s personal adventures immediately intertwine with those of a
country at war. During a bombing Nico unexpectedly saves the life of
Wickers, an American major. The boy’s courage prompts the major to give
him a very delicate assignment: take some secret documents to Rome to one
of their agents . The boy accepts the assignment thus beginning a
long journey , in a world filled with danger, violence, solidarity and
heroism.
