Faustina is a half-cast, daughter of a black American soldier and Roman mother. She lives with her husband Quirino, who raids antique tombs and sells his loot to tourists, hoping for the big break and treating his wife badly in the meantime. One day Faustina meets Enea, and tired of her husband’s heavy hand proposes to run away with him.But things do not go according to plan, she is arrested and when she is finally released, she is pregnant. Quirino believes the child is not his and beats Enea up. Faustina sees that her husband has not changed and not wishing her child to grow up with a violent father, leaves with Enea.
