Synopsis
A strange insurance policy is stipulated in a Sicilian village by a father burdened with debts, who does not intend to yield to the arrogance of the man who has ruined him and now wants to marry his daughter. The father pretends to accept the proposal but at the same time insures the girl’s honour during the period she is separated from her family in order to complete her studies. Lucia, is in love with Gaetano, and it is on the ardour of the boy which the father counts, so that Lucia – once compromised – can no longer marry the village bigwig, the insurance premium will be collected and she may marry Gaetano. However the boy refuses to seduce his sweetheart and so the day of the wedding arrives. But on the day, Lucia candidly declares she does not love the man and therefore cannot become his wife. Thus the two sweetheart’s dream comes true: they can marry without any trickery or feigning, living poor but happily ever after
